Travel
Travel is expensive. With the high cost of fuels, even travel within
MN for “local” tournaments is expensive. The purpose of
playing the 5 MN tournaments is to have fun, but more importantly to
prepare each team for the stiff competition we will see at out of state
tournaments. Once the Glory coaches have selected our 3 MN invitational
tournaments, these dates and the state championship tournament dates
will be posted on the Glory Coaches Corner page. Check that page weekly
for these schedules and other important notices.
To obtain directions
from your home to each weekend tournament use the MSHSL website and
Yahoo maps: Addresses for all Minnesota High Schools are posted on the
state’s website - MSHSL. On this website, left click on schools,
and find the school address from the right hand side of the page. Then
go to www.Yahoo.com and left click on Maps in the middle of the page.
Left click on the phrase “driving directions”. Under the
number 1, type your home address & under the number 2, type your
HS destination address. Print off the directions. Since most of our
players are from outside the Metro area, check the team’s roster
and carpool as much as possible.
The sole purpose of playing
in out-state tournaments is to showcase the boys' skills to college
coaches. We get to most all tournaments by volunteer parent driving.
Parents traveling with the team should keep this in mind when planning
their budgets. Parents should get their motel rooms as soon as they
have decided to drive some of the team to a tournament.
The costs for these
trips is additional. The cost of the tournament and the motel rooms
will simply be added and divided equally amongst the players on each
team. Once these costs are known, they will be posted on the Coaches
Corner page, and we would appreciate your bringing a check to the practice
before the state qualifying tournament.
Devotional
Night
Three great friends of the Glory program: former professional athletes:
NBA player Walter Bond, Powerlifter Jeff Warner, and Olympian Ron
Backes have devoted their time to the program and given devotionals.
The last practice in May, one of these athletes will be present for
a devotional and an autograph signing. Players should bring their families
and friends to hear what has become one of the highlights of the MN
Glory season.
